The StoreNextDoor Story
The StoreNextDoor origin story is like many others. We had a problem and wanted to fix it for ourselves. We then decided we could help other people with the same issue. StoreNextDoor was created to help people find local storage solutions, and allow other people to monetise their unused space.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN?
It started with one car in a two-car garage. That meant extra space. With costs of living continually rising we were always looking for extra ways to make money. Why not try and 'rent out' our garage space? Using other online marketplaces successfully, and monetising our garage space, we decided this idea needed a marketplace of its own. StoreNextDoor was born.
WHAT IS STORENEXTDOOR'S MISSION?
It's simple; We want to facilitate the exchange between two people, giving one access to easy, local and reliable storage solutions, whilst allowing the other to monetise their unused space.

I AM INTERESTED IN BECOMING A HOST ON STORENEXTDOOR – HOW DO I SIGN UP?
It's simple! Hit the 'Sign up' or 'List Your Space' button on our home page. From there, you will be prompted to fill out some details and answer some questions about your space. Provide as much information about your space as possible, to give renters confidence in the space they're enquiring about. Provide clear and high quality photos. We recommend including the following points:
- Size (square meterage)
- Level of security
- Accessibility (frequency of access)
- Duration of storage
- Susceptibility to weather conditions and change in temperature
Once you have listed your space, renters will be able to view your listing and enquire through the website. If comfortable doing so, feel free to exchange phone numbers and arrange a call. Clarify the specific information mentioned above, and get an agreement in writing. Ensure the details of your arrangement are kept somewhere safe and secure.
I AM INTERESTED IN RENTING WITH A HOST – WHAT NOW?
Finding the right host for your items is crucial for having a great experience through StoreNextDoor. We recommend reading host reviews and chatting with them in-person or over the phone before there is any kind of agreement or exchange of money. Ask for additional photos or information about the space to confirm it is what you want. If the host is someone you're comfortable eventually storing with, they should have no issues supplying extra information. Once you have agreed upon terms and specifics of the agreement, here are some steps you can follow to have peace-of-mind whilst your items are stored nearby.
- Print off StoreNextDoor Owner Tags template (request access, download the template and print them off).
- Label your items with the tags to differentiate them from other items in the space
- Snap up a photo of your items tagged and stored
- Ask for a monthly check-in photo from your host, with your items and tags as they were left
If you're wanting to store larger items like boats, cars, caravans etc. StoreNextDoor recommends drafting up a written contract to specify the terms of the agreement. This removes any risks of disagreements resulting in termination of the storage agreement.
